Snow white slowly took a small bite of the apple and she fell to the ground losing consciousness. Most children, and even the adults, are familiar with this fairy tale story. It is in fact just a tale, but in real life, the apple can make wonders.

In reality, many people suffer from many diseases; and the worst thing to happen to a person is to die from suffering such disease. But before the situation leads to an unpleasant end, you must be aware that these are still old-time home remedies which really work.

The apple cider vinegar cure has been used in many homes for many years now. It has proven to cure many ailments like allergies, acne, sinus infections, flu, high cholesterol, candida, chronic fatigue, contact dermatitis, sore throats, gout, arthritis, and acid reflux.

There are a large number of people suffering from acid reflux or the GERD (gastro-esophageal reflux disease). This usually happens when the LES or the lower esophageal sphincter does not function properly. The contents of the stomach, particularly the liquid, go back to the esophagus. The liquid contains pepsin and stomach acids. The pepsin digests proteins and the acid from the stomach burns the walls of the esophagus causing heartburn.

Experiencing heartburn once in a while should be a cause for worry, but if you experience the sensation more than two times each week, it’s time that you consult a doctor.

Acid reflux is harmful once the esophagus’ lining is destroyed, so you should undergo medication once you’ve been examined and diagnosed with acid reflux to prevent further complications.

Acid reflux is usually treated with antacids, but some people complain that it only makes the situation even worse. If you use antacids, the body will only produce more acids to compensate the decrease in body acids. The reflux will only worsen after the dose wears off at the end of the day.

Apple cider vinegar is now more preferred by people who want a natural way to cure their acid reflux. Going back to natural medicines are also helpful, but it requires patience and time. Natural remedies take some time before you can actually see the effects or results.

A bottle of apple cider vinegar costs between three to four dollars. It’s even cheaper than buying antacids. The best possible cure for acid reflux is just in your kitchen. But if you can’t find one in your kitchen, look for it in the supermarket.

Here is the dosage of drinking apple cider vinegar: two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (ACV) diluted in water at least thrice a day. You need a much stronger concoction if you’re currently treating the disease.

Some experience side effects like a metallic/acid taste and a burning tongue. Most people don’t like its taste, but to be cured, you must withstand its unpleasant taste. The apple cider vinegar really works wonders; in fact, you can find many customer testimonials about the benefits of the vinegar.

It doesn’t matter what brand of apple cider vinegar you choose to buy, as long as it gives the needed relief. Studies have proved its effectiveness, so don’t hesitate to use it. Perhaps Snow White was better off drinking apple cider instead of biting that big red apple that the old woman offered.

Hiatal hernia and acid reflux are two commonly encountered health problems, which affect numerous individuals all over the world. In many cases these two conditions are linked, acid reflux occurring as a consequence of the patient developing a hernia. In such cases, the first step towards treating the acid reflux is effectively correcting the hernia. Once the hernia has been corrected, minimal treatment is required for the gastro-esophageal reflux disease to be controlled or even cured altogether.

In order to correct the hiatal hernia and acid reflux, there are several options available. In some cases, surgery may be the only valid option, while in others it may not be recommended, as it may weaken the area increasing the risk of a relapse. In such situations, a trained professional (such as a kinesiologist, a massage therapist or a chiropractor) can manually correct the stomach’s position.

In some cases, the patient may even employ a procedure which can help solve the problems caused by hiatal hernia and acid reflux, prior to seeking professional help. The method consists of drinking a pint warm water, which is believed to help relax the diaphragm and the stomach, and then repeatedly standing on the toes and dropping to the heels. By doing so, the water in the stomach will act as extra weight pulling the stomach down and can effectively provide relief in less severe cases.

The patient may also employ nutritional aids to help him control the symptoms caused by hiatal hernia and acid reflux. Some herbs, called mucilaginous herbs, can be ingested to help absorb the gastric secretions, and thus preventing them from refluxing into the esophagus. Examples of such plants are comfrey and slippery elm. While the use of nutritional aids is not meant to replace a permanent corrective solution, it may provide the patient with sufficient immediate relief, as the herbs help protect the patient’s ileocecal valve and reduce irritation.

Patients suffering from hiatal hernia and acid reflux should also reconsider their diet so that it contains foods and substances which help soothe the gastrointestinal system. These include balm, chamomile tea, celery, licorice, papaya, hops, brown rice, coriander, barley water, gentian, ginger root, safflowers, raw cabbage juice and marshmallows. At the same time, they should avoid foods which cause gas, even after a permanent corrective solution has been applied; abdominal gas can force the stomach upwards, increasing the risk of a relapse.

One of the main tools in diagnosing acid reflux, endoscopy is an invasive medical procedure which allows visual inspection of the affected areas – namely, visual inspection of the patient’s stomach and esophagus.

The endoscopy may only be performed in a hospital or a clinic where the appropriate facilities are available, under the close supervision of a specialized health care professional. The actual procedure only lasts for a few minutes, however the preliminary operations, the preparations and the post-procedure care may last for up to several hours. It is recommended that the patient avoids eating anything for a few hours before undergoing this procedure in order to obtain the best results.

The preliminary operations include explaining the procedure to the patient (what it consists of, how will it help diagnose acid reflux etc), performing a general health examination to ensure that he is able to undergo the endoscopy and signing a form of consent.

Once all these preparations are complete, he will be guided into the endoscopy room. Here he will be connected to a machine which will monitor several parameters (heart rate, oxygen levels etc) for the duration of the procedure, and after lying down on his left side on the examination table, the patient will be administered a mild sedative, in order to eliminate any discomfort which may appear during the procedure.

A small mouth guard will be placed between the patient’s teeth, both to protect them from the endoscope and to protect the equipment from his teeth in turn. The endoscope (a thin, long cable, fitted with a miniature camera on its tip) is placed in his mouth, over the tongue, close to the back of the throat, and the patient is asked to swallow. As the patient swallows, his esophagus opens up allowing the endoscope to pass through it and into the stomach. The camera records images of the surrounding tissues at all times, searching for evidence of scarring or other damage to the esophageal tissue caused by acid reflux. Warm air is blown along the length of the endoscope in order to obtain better images, and once the instrument reaches the stomach, the procedure is almost complete. The operator will take a few tissue samples from the stomach and esophagus for further research, and the endoscopy procedure ends. The patient is taken to a ward to recover, and soon he will be able to leave the hospital.

Endoscopy is a procedure widely used for patients suffering from various gastro-esophageal or digestive disorders, including acid reflux. The procedure is very safe, and virtually no hazardous consequences are possible.

The widespread opinion in the medical society today is that there is a relationship between acid reflux and asthma – people suffering from asthma tend to develop GERD more often, which in turn will cause a worsening of their asthma.

Asthma is a commonly encountered respiratory affection, characterized by symptoms such as airflow resistance, wheezines and breathlessness, as well as hyper responsiveness to stimuli. The patient may also suffer from allergies more frequently, and it is common for the affection to manifest through nocturnal episodes.

Acid reflux, also known as gastro-esophageal reflux disease or GERD, is an affection caused by the gastric acid entering the esophagus and attacking the tissue there; one of the most common symptoms of this affection is the heartburn – a burning sensation in the lower chest, behind the sternum.

There seems to be a relationship between acid reflux and asthma; however, at this time, the studies performed on the matter have not reached any conclusive results. The common line of thought among health care professionals today is that the presence of GERD causes a worsening of the patient’s asthma, especially when the treatment for acid reflux is delayed or not applied at all. This is because the condition continues to progress, leading to the gastric acid reaching the mouth – but before that, it will affect the patient’s lungs.

At the same time, asthma causes a number of changes inside the patient’s chest, due to the high pressure created through breathing. This pressure may cause the gastric fluids to exit from the stomach into the esophagus, thus facilitating the onset of GERD.

Patients suffering from asthma should seek their doctor’s advice at any sign that may indicate the onset of GERD, as their condition will only worsen if they become affected by both acid reflux and asthma. It is strongly recommended that the patients only follow the doctor’s advice regarding their medication treatment. Typically, asthma medication comes under the form of aerosol sprays, as they are easily assimilated into the organism and cause less side effects. The doctors may prescribe drugs based on hydrocortisone or adrenaline, as well as a number of other substances with preventive or curative properties. However, you should never take any medication for your condition without seeking the advice of a specialized health care professional beforehand.

Specialists are still studying the exact nature of the relationship between acid reflux and asthma. The results point towards the conclusion that it is easier to effectively treat asthma once the patient is no longer suffering from GERD and similarly, acid reflux is more easily cured once the respiratory affection has been relieved.

Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), the medical term for “Acid Reflux” is defined as the product of abnormal reflux of gastric contents into the esophagus thus, creating a mucosal damage, likewise known as the chronic symptom.

This disease strikes adult primarily, while infants and children can also be affected. Normally spurred by eating certain foods, if not pregnancy, or taking a sleep right after eating a heavy meal, a large number of persons suffer from acid reflux at one time or another.

Heartburn or acid indigestion is another name that refers to acid reflux. Heartburn, the major symptom of Acid Reflux in the esophagus, is described to cause a burning uneasiness at the back of the sternum.

The symptoms may come as coughing, voice transformation, hoarseness, constant ear ache, or sinusitis. The complications brought upon by acid reflux may lead to esophageal ulcers or worse this can lead to esophageal cancer.

However, constant heartburn sensations do not necessarily mean that one has captured GERD already. The risk occurs when heartburn happened more than once a week, this occasion could possibly lead in developing GERD.

The usual cause of GERD is the increase in acidity or gastric acid production in the body, obesity, pregnancy, or tight-fitting apparels, these all can add to the problem. The yeast infections are also thought to be one of the causes of GERD-like symptoms.

An added ironical cause of the GERD is the insufficient production of stomach acid in the body. The explanation says that the valve, the hollow organ with a flap that insure the one-way course of fluid through the organ, once emptied triggers acidity in the intestines. If the valve fails to open, the contents of the stomach will be blended into the esophagus, and then irritation occurs.

Meanwhile, there are already several treatments for GERD today, one of which is the balance and healthy eating habits. Now if proper diet fails to work, one can shift to medication therapy or surgery as suggested by the doctors. Below are the lists of several selections of Acid Reflux treatment:

•	Proper Diet: the natural way to cure Acid Reflux is through change in their eating habits. A good number of people affected by GERD found success in following this method. Avoid the food ingredients which can intensify heart burn such as caffeine, soft drinks, and smoking. Avoid eating two hours before sleeping; likewise, avoid lying down after taking meal. These are the regular suggested change in lifestyle.

•	Another easy way to treat GERD is to elevate the head of the bed. The pharmacologic therapy, the combination of prevention of food two hours before sleeping and the rise of the head of the bed, there is a great chance for a patient to gain a 95 percent relief. The rise of the head of the bed is suggested to range for only 6 to 8 inches or 20 cm. Using this method the backflow of gastric fluids will be hampered.

•	Drug Treatment: Drugs reduce the secretion of the gastric acid, for instance and famotidine and omeprazole lessen the secretion of gastric acid and the Antacids counteract the acid.

•	Surgical treatment: the Nissen fundoplication, the standard surgical treatment for Acid Reflux, the medication process will only cover a short period of time. The function of this is to support the sphincter, a spherical bond of muscles that opens and closes to let the food or waste to pass, as well as stop Acid Reflux, and of course restore the hiatal hernia.

GER (gastro esophageal reflux) commonly known as Acid Reflux happens when the acid from the stomach backs up into the esophagus and up toward the throat burning it. This condition is usually associated with older or overweight individuals with bad diets. However, it has been estimated that as much as 80% of pregnant women suffer from heartburn symptoms that can be credited to GER. These symptoms can range from very mild to very severe, it generally only last the length of the pregnancy.

Acid reflux is most common during the third trimester as the baby begins to grow larger and presses upward on the abdomen. The morning sickness experienced during the first trimester is usually due to the placenta producing the female hormone progesterone. Progesterone relaxes the smooth muscles in the uterus allowing it to stretch, but unfortunately it also relaxes the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) allowing stomach acid to reflux or back flow into the esophagus. When this happens you experience discomfort or a burning sensation in the chest just below your breast bone.

During the third trimester the uterus enlarges as the baby grows and crowds the abdominal cavity pushing the stomach up against the esophagus. This pressure against the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) can cause acid reflux or heartburn. If the baby is particularly large a portion of the stomach can be push up through the diaphragm’s esophageal hiatus opening resulting in a hiatal hernia, which also contribute to acid reflux.

What’s a mother to do?

During pregnancy treating acid reflux can become a balancing act between remedies, diet, exercise and making sure the baby gets what it needs. Generally, during pregnancy you want to avoid medications as much as possible because of the there potential negative effect on the unborn child. But at the same time you would like some relief from that awful burning feeling.

These steps will help reduce your acid reflux or heartburn symptoms:

Eat small meals throughout the day rather than three large meals

Avoid drinking large quantities of fluids during meals; you don’t want to become dehydrated so sip water throughout the day making sure to get 8 to 10 cups of water.

Chewing gum can stimulate your saliva, which can help neutralize acid.

Try a small amount of ginger to help relieve gas, nausea and regurgitation.

Sleep with your head and shoulders elevated.

Don’t wear clothes that are tight especially around the stomach area.

Don’t Smoke, smoking stimulates the production of stomach acid.

Avoid Alcoholic drinks.

Use a calcium based antacid, but always check with your doctor first. Always avoid antacids that contain Aluminum or Magnesium.

If after trying the above helps, you don’t find relief from your acid reflux cause from pregnancy contact your doctor he may provide you with a pregnancy safe prescription.

A heart attack is something to be taken very seriously. I think we have all been instilled with the signs of a heart attack, primarily chest pains. For this reason, I have gone to the emergency room twice in the past three years, the most resent was last June. The first time I was experiencing severe pain in the center of my chest and the second time I had pain going from my chest into my left shoulder and arm. Both time I was monitored by the ER doctors and then given a treadmill stress test. I past both of these test with flying colors; my heart was in great shape.

So what was causing me so much pain that I thought I was having a heart attach – Acid Reflux. Acid Reflux or heartburn can be so severe at time that individuals like myself think they are experiencing a heart attack. Often times it’s difficult to discern the two without medical testing. To make things more complicated the two medical problems have similar symptoms.

Here are some acid reflux symptoms that are often mistaken for a possible heart attack:

A sharp, burning pain usually just below the breastbone, but can be higher as it was in my case. The location of the pain is based on how high the reflux reaches.

Pain associated with acid reflux does not generally radiate to the shoulders, neck, or arms, but with many people it does, it’s usually a bit milder.

If the pain comes after meals, when lying on the back, when exercising or when experiencing anxiety it’s usually associated with Acid Reflux.

Acid reflux usually responds quickly to antacids.

The most tell-tell symptoms is acid reflux rarely is accompanied by a cold sweat.

Here are the signs of a heart attack as defined by the American Heart Association:

Chest discomfort. Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.

Discomfort in other areas of the upper body. Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.

Shortness of breath. May occur with or without chest discomfort.

Other signs: These may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.

Cardiac problems can mimic heartburn or other indigestion problems, it very important that you do not confuse the two. If you think you’re having a heart attack, call 9-1-1 or your emergency medical system immediately. Get to a hospital right away.

Acid Reflux Symptoms

Heartburn is a common symptom of acid reflux and GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease), however not everyone that experiences heartburn has GERD.

Here are some common acid reflux symptoms:

Heartburn

Involves discomfort or burning pain in the chest that may move upward into your throat.

Increase by bending over, stooping or eating.

Heartburn can be more frequent or worst at night.

Often relieved by antacids.

Regurgitation

A bitter or sour tasting acid in the back of your throat.

Belching or Burping, often with a sour or bitter taste.

Dysphagia – the narrowing of the esophagus which feels like food is stuck in the esophagus.

Feeling bloated.

Chronic sore throat.

Dry cough or wheezing.

Hoarseness or a change in your voice.

If you are experiencing a number of the above symptoms report them to your doctor for further diagnosis. Your doctor may refer you to Gastrologist who specializes in the treatment of the gastric system such as stomach functions and disorders.

However , if you experience heartburn more than twice per week, and if your heartburn gets worse after you eat or when you lie down or bend over, you probably have a more serious condition than heartburn. You probably have Acid Reflux Disease .

Many people who have Acid Reflux Disease take prescription drugs like Prilosec, Prevacid or Nexium. While these drugs may help treat symptoms in the short-term (4 to 8 weeks, maximum), long-term use can cause the body to produce an extra amount of the hormone called gastrin. Gastrin is the substance that tells your stomach to make more acid. There are gastrin receptors on the esophageal, pancreatic, and gastric cancer cells, and over-production of gastrin can cause these cancer cells to grow too large, thus greatly increasing the risk of getting cancer in these areas.

Antacids (such as Pepcid, Zantac, Tagamet, Rolaids, and Tums) only mask the underlying problem of your heartburn or acid reflux. Most antacids contain excessive amounts of minerals such as Sodium, Aluminum, Calcium, and Magnesium. Excessive mineral imbalances can be very harmful, leading to cancer, hypertension or even Alzheimer’s Disease.

Scientists are not really sure why, but heartburn and acid reflux seem to run in families. It is passed on from generation to generation, but not always from parent to child.

Sometimes an uncle or aunt may suffer as does a niece or nephew. In a very large family, if there is one chronic sufferer there are bound to be several more.

Even though science has not officially recognized the link between genes and acid reflux, the facts are undeniable. More than 44% of the population suffers from chronic heartburn and acid reflux. These percentages go up disproportionately in families.

If you suffer from heartburn, it is more than likely someone else in your family does as well. You have the same genes. You have the same bodily disposition, which probably includes the same blood type, acidic tendencies, and even the same natural esophagus strength.

Chances are, the same acid reflux cure that worked for another family member will work for you.

First, Make Sure There Is Not another Underlying Condition

Occasional heartburn is probably just that, and nothing more. Once chronic heartburn and acid reflux sets in, your first stop should be to see a doctor. Only a doctor can tell you if you are suffering from heartburn and not something more serious.

Heart conditions, upper body hernias, ulcers, and many serious digestive problems can mask themselves as chronic acid reflux and heartburn.

These are very serious conditions and it is important they are diagnosed as soon as possible. You should make sure you tell your doctor about your complete family history, it is always possible another relative has been assuming he or she has heartburn when it is in fact something more serious.

After your doctor verifies the diagnosis, stop there. He or she will offer you many different medicinal treatments for your problem. However, you best bet is to find a natural cure for acid reflux.

What foods has your relative identified as agitators?

It is a simple concept. If heartburn is hereditary, then the items which cause heartburn and acid reflux are also probably hereditary. What you need to do is start asking questions.

Ask your other family members what foods seem to give them the most trouble. Are there some foods which result in an almost immediate reaction?

Do they notice a distinct difference when they avoid those foods? If the answer is yes, you should try to avoid those foods and see the results. It is highly likely that removing these foods from your diet will be an important part of your long term cure for acid reflux.

You also should not dismiss foods that your relative believes are troublesome. Foods do not always cause an immediate reaction. Sometimes, certain foods throw off your system.

They cause you to become more acidic. They may irritate your stomach lining or damage your esophagus. None of these will cause an immediate reaction, but they can cause acid reflux to be severe.

If your relative has always suspected a food is causing the problem, it is worth your time to test the theory. Avoid the food for at least 30 days. See if it improves your condition. If it does, avoiding this food will be important to curing your acid reflux.

Which cures for acid reflux worked best?

This is not a reference to your great aunt’s secret fix for stomach problems. That remedy has probably been passed down for a few generations. However, it has probably been similar to family gossip, changing each time a family member passed it on until it is more fiction than fact.

Finding out which of the acid reflux cures is for you involves a full question and answer session with your relative. How did your relative finally cure chronic heartburn?

How did they manage their stress levels? In what ways did they change their lifestyle? What nutritional choices did they make to permanently ease their pain?

In addition to the fundamental changes they made, how did they handle their day to day problem. Which acid reflex cures and remedies worked best for them? Did some home remedies work better than others?

These questions will give you a clue as to how to manage your daily symptoms as well as cure your problem.

Which Foods Helped the Problem?

Foods and food combinations have long been a critical part to most natural cures for acid reflux. Food nourishes your body. Without food you cannot sustain life. Consuming the right foods can be the key to solving your problem for good.

As you can imagine, food is a complicated issue. Talking to your relative about food will give your great insight into your personal needs. While everyone is unique, your relative’s advice is a great advantage over other people who have no one to compare results with.

However, you cannot rely on your relative’s experiences with food to completely solve your problem. Chances are, your relative is still plagued with acid reflux and heartburn. If this is true, then your relative has not actually cured their condition but is only managing it.

Because food is a complicated issue, you will need a little more help. You need to take your relative’s advice to the next level. The Heartburn No More e-book can give you this help.

In Heartburn No More you will learn about the critical impact food has on your chronic heartburn. You will learn how to use foods to cleanse your system, realign your Ph balance, and strengthen your digestive track.

You will also learn how to make the right lifestyle choices that will support your new gained health and keep you acid reflux free.

With some help from your relatives, you should be able to target your acid reflux treatments to get the most result.

If you follow up that care with a proven anti-acid reflux program like Heartburn No More, you should be able to stay pain free for the rest of your life. In fact, you may even be able to teach your relative how to stay heartburn free too.
